Our Projects

Ecomotion's kids have a long list of projects and plans. The Florida Keys offers us endless opportunities for exploration, education, community service and outreach, and fun in the sun!

Project 1. Study of Marine Debris

Thanks to NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), we received donated workbooks titled "Understanding Marine Debris". Kids of all ages can learn about marine debris or trash and the effects of this type of pollution on our environment. The kids dove into these fun books during our first meeting.

Project 2. Coastal Clean Ups

January started us off on our first Eco Action with a clean up of Long Beach, Big Pine Key. The kids did not hesitate to grab gloves and grabbers and go to it! We filled up a pick up truck within 2 hours! THANK YOU to the National Key Deer Refuge for sharing their clean up supplies with Ecomotion. www.fws.gov/refuge/National_Key_Deer_Refuge/

Project 3. Coral Restoration

We learned about coral restoration work during our March meeting. THANK YOU to Chris Bergh of the Nature Conservancy for capturing the kids' attention with a slide show that helped us understand our fragile coral reefs and what is needed to reestablish coral, such as Staghorn.
