Ecomotion's first meeting, December 2015
Ecomotion started in December, 2015. A small group of kids and parents met at the Stock Island Marina Village Lounge. The kids loved it! Joyce Milelli gave an introduction to the kids about "being the change" and starting community activism with a kid powered environmental group: "It's all good-whether its picking up trash, taking care of an injured animal, or recycling-it's all good! We will start small but think big. We all have ideas to share, projects to create and actions to take. Everyone can do something. And it feels great to help out our world in any way we can. Remember, little steps lead to big steps. And you should feel very good about being a kid who stands up and makes a motion to help our world! If we all help together, then big things will happen. We will inspire others and keep learning and growing together for a better, healthier planet!"
We shared "Eco Updates" or info on what we are reading or experiencing in our natural world. Then, our first guest speaker, Heather from Reef Relief, talked about pollution from storm water run-off. Very engaging with the help of her Key West street model, paper balls of trash and a little soy sauce! Thanks Heather and Reef Relief! We are distributing educational door hangers about Storm Water Run Off for Reef Relief. GO KIDS!
And we handed out Marine Debris work books for kids of all ages. Thanks to NOAA! There were games, music, pizza and lots of sharing but it was clear that the kids have an incredible amount of knowledge and passion for their environment and are ready for Ecomotion!
By the end of the meeting, the kids asked "when can we meet again??"
Let's keep it going!!
